WOMEN WORKING IN FACTORIES AND COAL MINES FOR LESS PAY
Women were also mistreated in the Industrial Revolution. They were forced to work as many as 12 hours in textile factories, coal mines, and in domestic service. Like children, women were abused, and treated as second-class citizens. The conditions were poor, unsanitary, dangerous, and women could not receive education because they were working. However, it was necessary for women to find waged work, although they were not paid like men. Families became dependent upon the wages of women and their children.
